Aldeen was ranked #21 by Golf Advisor as a Top Course under $50 in August 2016. This was based on reviews over the previous two-and-a-half years. Of the 50 courses that were ranked, Aldeen Golf Club was the top-rated course in Illinois.

Aldeen was ranked the best municipal course in Illinois by Golf Digest in 2009 and rated 4-1/2 stars by 2008 Golf Digest Magazine’s Places to Play guidebook. GOLF Magazine calls it one of the Thrifty Fifty (top 50 courses in the country under $50). Aldeen is ranked #23. The Aldeen Golf Club has set a new standard for upscale public golf in northern Illinois.

Aldeen Golf Club invites you to experience eighteen championship holes with expertly manicured greens, tees and fairways, challenging water hazards on 12 of 18 holes, and 62 sand bunkers including three Dick Nugent-designed “beach bunkers.”

Keith Creek winds through the front nine past our signature 8th hole with its island green and replica of the Swilcan Bridge at St. Andrews. Subtle elevation changes, along with mogul filled roughs and numerous trees, provide a straightforward, challenging, and beautiful test of golf.

Tee times are welcome, a full service golf shop is fully stocked, and PGA professionals are on site for lessons or any assistance you may require.

Superior course conditions are Aldeen Golf Club’s standard of excellence.

HISTORY

Aldeen Golf Club opened July 26, 1991, as the Rockford Park District’s fifth public course.

$2 million in funding for the course came from Norris and Margaret Aldeen, who wanted to build a public course with the feel of a country club.

Norris and Margaret Aldeen had a vision to provide an upscale public golf facility that was affordable for working men and women, and their children. A lifelong golfer, Norris A. Aldeen was taught how to play golf by his mother on a public course. He and his wife Margaret approached the Rockford Park District in 1988 with the offer of providing the property on which the Aldeen Golf Club now exists and “seed” money to help the district build its fifth golf course.

The firm of Dick Nugent and Associates was chosen from a group of well respected golf course architects and construction began in 1989. The golf course and adjoining 26 acre practice centre were opened for play on Margaret Aldeen’s birthday.

The 18-hole course covers 7,131 yards. It features expertly manicured greens, tees, and fairways, 62 sand bunkers (including 3 beach bunkers), water on 12 of the 18 holes, and four sets of tees. The course’s signature hole is #8, which features an island green.

Aldeen Golf Club also offers a 26-acre practice centre with a driving range, two short-game areas with sand bunkers, and a 14,000 square foot putting green.
