Description: Rockford Park District's Atwood Center is open every Saturday year-round from 10:00a.m. until 2:00p.m., and welcomes the public to visit for free self-guided hikes at 334-acre Seth B. Atwood Park. Visitors can view feeding time for the resident birds of prey at 1:00p.m., as well as interact with volunteers of the facility’s award-winning Birds of Prey live exhibit, which offers up-close views of raptors, and one of the few accessible tree houses in Illinois. Atwood Center staff will also be on hand, and have a wealth of knowledge to share about the park’s animal inhabitants, its woodland, prairie, river, and marsh habitats, as well as its variety of ecosystems, ranging from marsh area to new forest growth, to climax forests of oak, hickory, and walnut.
