Hot Time In the Summertime…For the Guys! Are you and the guys stuck in a rut? Tired of the same ole’ thing and looking for something new to do? A visit to Rockford is just what the doctor ordered! Whatever you choose, you can bet it will be an unforgettable weekend with your buddies.
Day One, morning
After breakfast, spend some time with nature…on the golf course that is. You won’t find better conditions in all of the Midwest and with such affordable greens fees. The Rockford Park District and Winnebago County Forest Preserve manage the eight fabulous courses in the area that gave Rockford its
Golf Digest three-year consecutive ranking as the USA’s “Best Mid-Sized City for Golf."
Aldeen Golf Club and Practice Centre was awarded 4-1/2 stars by Golf Digest’s “Places to Play" guide!
Day One, eveningSummer brings the Rockford tradition of motor sport racing at the
Rockford Speedway. Top-name NASCAR racing on a quarter-mile, high-banked track with more than 85 scheduled events per year and post-season National Short Track and Little Car Championships. Or, if you’d rather watch SCCA sports car events, autocross, motorcycle and go-kart races you’ll want to hit
Blackhawk Farms Raceway. A road course as well as off-road and motorcycle dirt tracks are featured. If you’re feeling lucky, head to
Trackside Off-Track Betting for a little wagering on the horses. Simulcast racing from the best thoroughbred and harness tracks across the country--Arlington Park, Calder Racecourse, Churchill Downs, Hollywood Park and others.
LodgingAfter a long day of golfing, rock climbing or spectator sports, you’ll want to rest your weary head on a soft pillow.
Rockford’s hotels include everything from full-service resorts to budget lodging. For a complete listing visit our
accommodations page.
Day Two, morningWhat would a "guy" tour be without a visit to the world's oldest Harley-Davidson dealership?
Kegel Motorcycle Company is an award-winning facility with a showroom that features Harley-Davidson and Buell, and is the oldest Harley dealership in the country. In addition to the showroom, you'll find unique gifts, home furnishings; and an unsurpassed selection of children's Harley Davidson riding apparel. Grab a burger, fries and chocolate shake at the classic 50's-style diner.
Day Two, afternoonBaseball is alive and well in Rockford. The
Rockford Riverhawks, a minor league team, play at a brand new stadium at I-90 and Riverside Blvd. Now, if you like baseball but want to take part in a little different take on the game, don't miss the
Midway Village Museum's Midway Marauders vintage baseball team where they play by 1850's rules, when men were men and gloves were for sissies! While you're there, check out the Rockford Peaches exhibit inside, featuring Rockford's own All-American Girls Professional Baseball League team from 1943 to 1954-and the team that the movie A League of Their Own was based on.
Guy Meals & Late Night Activities
When you're ready for a "guy" dinner, Rockford can offer up just about anything. For a juicy, thick steak there are many choices, but a select few are considered top-notch.
Maria's Italian Café is a classic Italian neighborhood restaurant still located in its original building serving up what many think is the best steak around. Or try the garlic-smothered Steak Sinatra at
Nunzio's Italian Restaurant. If you're looking for a view, try Cliffbreakers Restaurant and Bar/Lounge.
Cliffbreakers Martini Lounge Overlooking the Rock River, this eclectic dining establishment is furnished with antiques and architectural artifacts from around the world.
Giovanni's Restaurant & Big Al's Bar offers choice steaks, fresh seafood, low cholesterol entrees, and gourmet pastas. There's a late night bar menu and live jazz and music on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday nights.
