ROCKFORD, IL – As school starts up again for Rockford area students, parents and kids can enjoy Rockford City Market for their back to school needs. The market offers several snack options from fresh produce to roasted nuts for students to bring to school or eat after school. Students of all ages can also sport Rockford t-shirts in class thanks to market vendor Rockford Art Deli. Teachers can also find items to spruce up classrooms at the market. Evelyn’s Acre sells fresh flowers that will brighten up any room, and Just Craftin’ Around by Jen sells fun, handmade signs to display in any home or classroom. Stop by the Rockford City Market Information Booth (located on Market Street) to give your feedback on what activities and programming you would like to see at the new indoor market. There will be boards set up to write ideas and comments. The indoor market is set to open in the winter of 2019.
The Natural Land Institute, preserving natural areas and wildlife habitat for people, plants and animals, will be promoting their upcoming Fall Prairie Harvest Day with a fun activity!
The Midtown District will be promoting their Midtown Ethnic Parade & Festival, which features over 50 ethnic groups from the Rockford region, including both those that built Rockford and those who came later. The focus is to acknowledge, welcome, and celebrate those who comprise our very diverse community. They will be offering a dragon puppet craft for the kids celebrating Asian culture. The festival will take place on Sunday, August 26.
The Auburn High School Key Club will also be offering free face painting for the kids!
The Rockford Rage, a local women’s roller derby team, will be at the gates promoting their current season, the sport, and how you can become part of the team.
ROCKFORD AREA ARTS COUNCIL
Jason Gough of Illuminate Neon will be at the RAAC Booth featuring custom hand-made neon signs and sculptures. Check it out for some awesome neon art!
Mercyhealth has a passion for making lives better. This Friday, the Interventional Radiology Department will be at the Mercyhealth booth. Our interventional radiology team provides minimally-invasive treatments concerning women’s health, vertebral compression fractures and IVC filter education. This Friday they will be doing free PAD (peripheral artery disease) assessments. Stop by our booth at the corner of Market and Water Streets from 3:30 – 8:30 p.m. on Friday, August 17 to meet members of our staff and learn what Interventional Radiology means to you. Rockford City Market takes place every Friday from May 18 through September 28 along Water Street between State and Jefferson Streets in downtown Rockford. The market runs from 3:30 – 8:30 p.m. before Labor Day and 3:30 – 7:30 p.m. after Labor Day.
