First Fridays at Rockford City Market - Spend an Evening in Downtown Rockford

ROCKFORD, IL – Downtown Rockford will be buzzing with activity this Friday, August 3 as area businesses and events participate in First Fridays. The first Friday of every month, downtown art galleries, shops, music and theater venues work together to stay open late providing great new art, music and goods. Rockford City Market will be offering live music entertainment in two locations at the market as well as children’s activities for families to enjoy while they spend time downtown on Friday.
In addition to First Fridays, Friday Night Flix will be showing the Disney Pixar movie, Coco, starting at dusk at Davis Park. Jerry Seinfeld will also be performing at the Coronado Performing Arts Center on Friday evening. Those attending the movie or show that night are encouraged to spend some time downtown at Rockford City Market before the show to enjoy all the food, drinks and shopping the market offers.

The Discovery Center Museum will be offering a free craft where kids can make stand-up owl cuffs and learn about owl pellets to promote their upcoming Harry Potter event, Hogwarts Back to School, on Sunday, August 11! Easterseals is changing the way the world defines and views disabilities by making profound, positive differences in people’s lives every day. They will be offering a fun craft for the kids using washable water paint spray bottles.
The “I READ” Program, a partnership between The Literacy Council and United Way, is an early grade reading initiative that pairs adult mentors with children who need reading help. I READ serves four school districts: Harlem, Rockford, Meridian, and Oregon. Stop by any gate for their promotional booth Friday to learn more about the program!
ROCKFORD AREA ARTS COUNCIL
Zobie’s Artwork offers impressionism painting of Chicago and Rockford. They will be selling their original paintings in acrylic, oils, pastel, and watercolor at the market this Friday. Check them out online at www.dekalbcountyartwork.com.

Rockford City Market takes place every Friday from May 18 through September 28 along Water Street between State and Jefferson Streets in downtown Rockford. The market runs from 3:30 – 8:30 p.m. before Labor Day and 3:30 – 7:30 p.m. after Labor Day.
