Rockford City Market Celebrates National Farmers Market Week - Specials, giveaways, events and more offered at the market

ROCKFORD, IL – August 5 – 11, 2018 is National Farmers Market Week across the country. National Farmers Market Week is a great opportunity to show how much value markets bring to their communities. In celebration of the week, Rockford City Market and North End City Market are offering triple value on SNAP purchases up to $20 on Friday, August 10 and Saturday, August 11. Get up to $40 in free produce when you use your SNAP benefits at either market!

 

In addition to the SNAP benefit deal, the market will also be offering a cooking demonstration at 6 p.m. The cooking demonstration will be utilizing current in-season produce including zucchini, summer squash, peaches, cucumbers, tomatoes and corn.

ACTIVITIES

The Robert C. A. Carlson Post 1207 American Legion will be offering an activity featuring their red poppy. There will be fun coloring pages for kids as well as free face painting.

 

Spectrum School has a fifty-year legacy of progressive education in Rockford, personalizing curriculum and instruction to engage the whole child in experiential learning that advances critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, civic-mindedness, and making learning fun. At the market, they will have a variety of experiential learning activities for a Taste of Spectrum, including making graphs and patterns with M&Ms, making and measuring bubbles with bubble art, and some creative thinking challenges.

 

ENTRANCE GATES

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Northern Illinois is an affiliate of the nation’s largest, grassroots mental health advocacy organization. The organization is dedicated to improving the lives of those who live with mental illness and their loved ones through support, education, and advocacy.

 

ROCKFORD AREA ARTS COUNCIL

Kyle McDonald will have his Acrylic paintings, mixed media, and prints at the market (www.mcdonaldky.com).

Rockford City Market takes place every Friday from May 18 through September 28 along Water Street between State and Jefferson Streets in downtown Rockford. The market runs from 3:30 – 8:30 p.m. before Labor Day and 3:30 – 7:30 p.m. after Labor Day.
