Well known for his on-air expertise, Diaz Ruiz has spent the past few years as a lead broadcaster for global events featuring signature gaming titles like Call of Duty and NBA 2K. Now, he’s attempting to make the leap to the League as a professional player this weekend, when Diaz Ruiz hopes to hear his name called by one of the 23 NBA 2K League franchises.

The Rockford IceHogs have rediscovered their stride at just the right moment as they secured their spot in the 2017-18 Calder Cup playoffs along with the Chicago Wolves, Grand Rapids Griffins and Manitoba Moose. With wins in six straight games and points in 16 of the last 19 contests since Feb. 24, the Hogs have leapt Iowa in the standings to clinch a place in the playoffs.

I have been to more Rockford IceHogs games in my life than I can recall. As a kid, I was brought along to these games on the weekends, often following my sister's hockey practice or games. So throughout the years, I have been on and off following the IceHogs and the Chicago Blackhawks. It wasn't until last season, and mostly this season, where I started paying a bit more attention to our local team. Attending multiple games this season, I can say this is a team worth watching.

So the championship match didn't go as planned. I fought a very tough fight against a Russian fighter. I believe I could have won the fight just as much as I lost it but I came home with silver. Win or lose, I would never change this experience for the world.

It's been a long week of waiting, but Friday was finally my first day of competition. Since I received a bye, I was in the morning session--the very first fighter up in bout 1 to decide if I'd be advancing into the gold medal round tomorrow. My opponent was from Kazakhstan, which is one of the strongest boxing countries in the world. I believe their national sport is boxing.

It's day 3 here in Germany. The weather this morning was on the colder side, but we started off as usual with our normal morning workout. After the workout, we went to what was basically like a Wal-Mart to get some groceries and supplies for the week.
