An Evening with the Owls

Join us for an educational program about owls during the peak Saw-Whet Owl migration in October. Learn about the research Sand Bluff and other scientists are conducting about owl ecology, owl behavior and experience the magic of a nighttime nature hike as we listen for calling owls and other nocturnal creatures. Light refreshments will be provided.

Seating is limited: Max. of 25 people per night. Contact Mary Ann Pettenger at 815-494-7865 to reserve your seat.

Please dress for the weather! We recommend wearing long pants, a long sleeved shirt and sturdy shoes/boots. Please bring mosquito repellant and a flashlight/headlamp.


Colored Sands Forest Preserve / Sand Bluff Bird Observatory - 10602 Haas Rd., Shirland, IL 61079 - Sand Bluff Bird Observatory is located at Colored Sands Forest Preserve, 4 miles north of Shirland off Yale Bridge Road. Follow signs posted on Yale Bridge Road.
