Say goodbye to winter at Candlemas Eve, a candlelit evening of music presented by The Music Academy in Rockford. Candlemas is a Scottish celebration of the half-way point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox with strings, piano, bagpipes, pipe organ and singing.
The event features performances by Music Academy students and will conclude with a solo bagpiper accompanied by members of the City of Rockford Pipe Band. Music will include Loch Lamond, Prayer for Peace, Pachelbel’s Kannon, Amazing Grace and Lord Lovat’s Lament.
The Music Academy is spending the year studying Scottish music in preparation for a trip to Scotland in July where students will participate in the prestigious Stirling Bridge International Arts Festival, a five-day celebration of music and culture. Free will donations will be accepted at Candlemas Eve which will be used to help students finance their Scotland trip.
