102 years ago, the soldiers in the Western front of the Great War called unofficial ceasefires during the week of Christmas. Enemies came together to decorate, exchange gifts, sing carols, and even play football.
Re-enactors will decorate the replica trench on the museum grounds, and visitors will receive a tour and hear excerpts from letters about soldiers experiencing Christmas in the trenches.
See a re-enactment of the cease fire, sing carols with the soldiers, take part in the gift exchange with a special souvenir gift for everyone, sip hot chocolate, and even play football! Pre-registration is required by Wednesday, December 7 by calling 815-397-9112, and participants may register for a morning program. No online registration is taken for the special event.
Please note that this program will take place outside. Dress appropriately.
