Discover a diverse cast of fierce women who fought society’s rules and blazed trails as artists, athletes, entrepreneurs, and inventors. This special event celebrates the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote by highlighting powerful women throughout local and national history.

- Conduct a science experiment with Marie Curie.
- Create your own art craft with Frida Kahlo.
- Learn about aviation with female pilot Bessica Raiche.
- Meet and greet with important figures who worked to win the vote for women.
- Many more family-friendly activities and crafts!

10 am - 3 pm: Activities and Crafts located in Museum Galleries

10:30 am: Bold and Brave: Ten Heroes Who Won Women the Right to Vote by Kirsten Gillibrand. Storytime with local author, Kathi Kresol. (30 minutes)

11:00 am: Courage and Cloth by Ann Bausum. Presentation on women's suffrage, focusing on the closing decade of the fight. Tailored for ages 10+. (60 Minutes, Presentation + Q&A).

12:30 pm: Meet & Greet with Frederick Douglass, an early champion of women’s rights. (30 minutes)

1:00 pm: Meet & Greet with Kate O’Connor,  Rockford native who was an active proponent of women’s voting rights. (30 Minutes)

1:30 pm: Suffrage Sing Along. Suffragists borrowed tunes from popular songs and hymns as they created anthems for their movement. Sing along to these songs while learning about their meaning. (45 Minutes)

2:45 pm: Suffrage March. Participate in a suffrage march to end the event! (15 Minutes)


Activities and museum admission to the exhibit galleries is included in the admission price. This event is affiliated with Women's Suffrage Centennial 2020. This special event is made possible through a generous contribution by the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois from the Jon W. Lundin Historic Preservation Fund and the Blanche Martin Mini-Grant offered by Delta Kappa Gamma, Zeta Chapter. This family event is for all ages. Parking is free.

Directions:
Midway Village Museum - 6799 Guilford Rd., Rockford, IL 61107 - From I-90 and E. State St. (U.S. Business 20): Go west on E. State to Perryville Rd. Turn right (north) on Perryville to Guilford Rd. (about 1 mile). Turn left (west) on Guilford Rd. to museum entrance on south side of street. From the south: I-39 to I-90 (north, toward Wisconsin) and proceed as above. From IL 251 or IL 2 and Business U.S. 20: Go east on Business 20 to Mulford Rd. Turn left (north) on Mulford to Guilford and turn right (east). Look for the signature Millhouse by the entrance gate.
