Additional Information

In honor of the 200th anniversary of Illinois becoming a state, Rockford Urban Ministries hosts a special Illinois History Art Sale in the JustGoods Fair Trade Store back room Gallery.

For sale are old maps for the early 1800s showing Illinois in various imaginings; political prints of local and state politicians including Abraham Lincoln, former Governor Dan Walker, and John B. Anderson; old photographs, water colors, posters, knickknacks, and sculptures.

All proceeds from the Illinois History Sale benefit Rockford Urban Ministries, an outreach of 25 area congregations working in the city. The Sale is open during JustGoods fair trade store hours: Monday through Saturday, 10am to 6pm, or by private appointment by calling 815-964-7111.

Items are donated by local collectors as well as by supporters of Rockford Urban Ministries. Donations are accepted anytime, and are tax deductible. All proceeds benefit Rockford Urban Ministries and its partner projects. RUM’s latest project is hosting a summer work camp for large groups of volunteers to work on indigent peoples’ homes.

JustGoods is a non-profit store providing lovely gifts that are certified to have been produced in a “fair” way (i.e., no child labor, the producer is paid a living wage, not environmentally damaging). Fair trade began as a way of promoting mission and peace programs, cooperatives and justice issues in third world countries.
