Attention all sports fans! On Sunday, August 5, the Ethnic Heritage Musuem will unveil the Judge K. Patrick Yarbrough’s Sports Memorabilia exhibit. “Hammy” the team mascot for the Rockford Icehogs will join in the unveiling of this exciting new exhibit, which features items from the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Blackhawks, Rockford Rivets and Rockford IceHogs.
Judge Yarbrough is a life-long Chicago Cubs fan and this display will include memorabilia he has collected for decades. One of the highlights of this exhibit is a Chicago Cubs Baseball Collage with a vintage pennant, Sunoco Buttons, tickets and photographs. The exhibit also includes autographed baseballs from Chicago Cubs players and Jack Brickhouse.
Chicago Bears fans will enjoy seeing a football autographed by Dick Butkus, a football autographed by Gayle Sayers, a Minnesota Vikings Football Collage with autographs from Jim Marshall, Stu Voigt, and Chuck Forman and an autographed Alan Page Jersey.
Other highlights in this exhibit are a Chicago Blackhawks Hockey Collage featuring hockey player cards and photographs, an autographed Buck O’Neil baseball (Negro Baseball League) and Rockford Peaches autographed items - just to name a few.
The Ethnic Heritage Museum and Graham-Ginestra House are open every Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. General admission to both museums is only $7 per individual, $15 per family or free to members.
The Ethnic Heritage Museum is handicap accessible at the entrance on Loomis Street. On-street parking is available. There is additional parking in the lot on the corner of Main and Morgan Streets next to the Graham-Ginestra House. Tours can be arranged by calling 815/962-7402. About Judge Yarbrough - Judge K. Patrick Yarbrough, Winnebago County’s first African American judge is the Supervising Judge of the Juvenile Division of the 17th Judicial Circuit of the State of Illinois, presiding over juvenile criminal and abuse and neglect cases. Judge Yarbrough is a Rockford, IL native who graduated from Guilford High School (1979), received his Bachelor of Arts from Ripon College (1983), Ripon WI, and his Juris Doctor from Northern Illinois University College of Law (1988).
