Returning again to Rockford Illinois during their North American tour is the acclaimed Konevets Quartet. The Konevets Quartet male vocal ensemble was founded in the summer of 1992 at the Konevets Monastery of the Holy Nativity, on Konevets Island by graduates and students of the St. Petersburg State Conservatory. Originally the quartet participated in the divine services. The musicians gave their first concerts for the workers and restorers as well as the pilgrims and tourists who visited the island.
In the past, all the members of the ensemble were graduates of the Leningrad M. Glinka Choral College and the choral directing department of the specialized music school at the Conservatory.
Their repertoire includes Russian sacred music, from ancient monastic chants to works by contemporary composers, Russian folk songs of different genres, and also works by Russian classical composers. The Konevets Quartet has participated in various fund-raising programs and more than twenty international festivals in Russia, Great Britain, the US, Canada, France, Italy, Scandinavia and Japan.
