Landscaping with Native Plants

Overview
Additional Information

You don’t need to leave the city to find nature; it can be as close as your backyard. Join Dave Neu at this in-person program and gain the skills necessary to create landscape designs in harmony with nature by working with natural systems and native plants to provide lush, beautiful sanctuaries for people, songbirds, and butterflies.

Learn how to evaluate site conditions in order to create aesthetically pleasing and functional native landscape designs for homeowners, corporate campuses, and other public spaces.

You’ll understand how to properly select native plants for the best results and lowest maintenance for the site. And finally, you’ll discover why using native plants is the best option for environmentally friendly gardening and landscaping.

Dave Neu has worked as a Wildlife Biologist with Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, and the National Wild Turkey Federation, and has been a National Program Director and Executive Director for non-profit organizations. He also has worked in commercial natural resource restoration and municipal sustainability roles.

In those positions, he has restored and managed tens of thousands of acres of native vegetation on public and private lands across the Midwest. Dave has a Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife Management, Biology, and Resource Management from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. He became a Master Gardener in 1994 and a Certified Wildlife Biologist in 2001. He received a certificate in Landscape Design in 2018.

Dave serves on the National Board of Directors for Wild Ones, the Advisory Board for the Ancient Oaks Foundation, and is the Chairman of the Sustain Libertyville Commission.
