This  is the fouth year that Illinois is celebrating Oak Awareness Month in Illinois as proclaimed by Governor Bruce Rauner. The purpose of OAKtober – OAK Awareness Month is to bring attention to the importance of Oak trees for a healthy ecosystem and to promote the need to control the decline of Oak trees throughout Illinois.

Guided tours will last about an hour and a half and will be led by Zach Grycan, Director of Stewardship, and Ed Cope, Restoration Ecologist. They will lead the hike through the rolling hills and oak savannas of Burr Oak Valley Preserve and talk about the ongoing restoration work and the importance of an oak habitat.

Location /Parking and Registration 
Burr Oak Valley Preserve is located on Elevator Road across from Cross and Crown Lutheran Church, 7404 Elevator Rd., Roscoe, IL 61073. There is limited parking on site. Additional parking is available at the church. Hikers should wear long sleeves, pants and sturdy shoes.  Moderate to difficult level hiking.
