Rock River Paddle and Meet and Greet with Author Timothy Bauer

Additional Information

Rocktown Adventures is and Nature at The Confluence are hosting an event you won’t want to miss as we paddle the Fur Trader’s River Run with Timothy Bauer, author of “Canoeing & Kayaking South Central Wisconsin: 60 Paddling Adventures Within 60 Miles of Madison.” This will be his first time exploring this section of the Rock River. Timothy will use this trip to write a trip report for his popular website milespaddled.com.

We invite you to join our free group paddle down the beautiful Rock River from South Beloit to Macktown Forest Preserve in Rockton, followed by a meet and greet with Mr. Bauer at Nature at the Confluence. Free if you have your own kayak and transportation, come on out and join in the fun! We will be providing shuttle service and rentals for those that can use a hand so they can join.

Details: This 2-hour paddle trip highlights the 320-mile Rock River Trail and is a scenic paddling adventure you will truly enjoy! Paddle by Boney Island with the active eagle nest, and you’re sure to see other wildlife on this quiet and wooded paddle trip. This trip is called the “Fur Trader’s River Run” because it retraces the route fur traders Joseph Thibault and Stephan Mack would have used prior to 1835. There is a portage required at the Rockton Dam. It is very easy to navigate. Expect to be off the water around 3:00. Meet and greet begins at 3:30. Mr. Bauer will autograph copies of his book and will have some on site to purchase.

Location: We will launch Nature at the Confluence at 1:00 and paddle the 6.3 miles to Macktown Forest Preserve. A shuttle will take you back to Nature at the Confluence for those that signed up for the shuttle or are renting equipment.

Price: Free if providing your own equipment and transportation. Shuttle is $15 for those that have their own kayak but want to hitch a ride, and $40 for those that also need equipment. We have limited space available so don’t delay! If we get more than 10 people, we can run a second shuttle.

What to bring/wear: Dress for the water temperature and not the air temperature. Avoid cotton if possible as it retains water and does not insulate. Drink and light snack.

Register: Please give us a call at 815-636-9066 to sign up for the shuttle or for rental.
