On Saturday, May 22nd Rockton will hold the first annual Pelican Fest from 10am to 5pm.
The Rockton Pelican Fest is a celebration of the annual return of the American White Pelicans to the Rock River. The event is geared to promoting public awareness of all The migrating birds in the area as well as other flora and fauna in the region. There will be educational booths featuring the many nature areas available to the public, as well as family activities along with eating and shopping.
The community birdhouse art installation painted by local and area artists of all ages will be on display at JR Finally Art Studio and Gallery. The gallery will also host the student art show, "Art Connects Us ". Ingrid Hyde will curate this show comprising 1st to 6th grade students from Ralston and Machesney Park Elementary schools.
Several outdoor booths will be set up along Main Street and Prairie Street.
HD Jameson House offers the opportunity to win a private, 2 hour bird viewing for four from the comfort of the HD Jameson's dock while enjoying a charcuterie by Perfectly Seasoned of Roscoe along with a bottle of wine. You must be 21 to enter. Their booth will also house a Make your own Pinecone Bird Feeder make'n take.
The STEM For Kids booth will explain, how birds fly.
Other booths represented: The Natural Land Institute/Nygren Wetland Preserve, Nature at The Confluence, 815 Outside, and the Sinnissippi Audubon Society.
