Soundscapes

Overview
Additional Information

This concert will explore the inspiration composers took from nature. Brahms often turned to nature for ideas and inspiration, and much of his music is described as risen from mountains and forests and open sky. The concert will open with his famous violin concerto, and we are thrilled to collaborate with the incredible violinist Simone Porter. Another aspect of nature will be explored with Cantus Arcticus, a work by the Finnish composer Einojuhani Rautavaara, which is a concerto for birds and orchestra. A fascinating work that explores the sounds of nature, this piece pairs the orchestra alongside recordings of actual birds singing. The concert will end with one of the most incredible works for orchestra ever written, La Mer (The Sea) by Claude Debussy.
