Rockford University Performing Arts

The Clark Arts Center is home to Rockford University's Department of Performing Arts and the Art Department. Along with Maddox Theatre and Cheek Theatre this complex includes drawing, sculpture, ceramics and print studios, a photography dark room, the Art Gallery, the Dance Studio, music practice rooms, fully equipped costume and scene shops, the green room, dressing rooms and costume, prop and scenery storage.

Maddox Theatre is a fully equipped 572 seat proscenium theater which is home to a variety of performing arts events. Each year the department produces faculty directed shows, choral concerts and recitals in Maddox Theatre. It also hosts the University forum series and many community cultural events.

Cheek Theatre is a 40' by 50' flexible seating black box theater. The department produces faculty directed and student directed shows, our Three-Penny Theatre, in Cheek Theatre annually.

  • Directions: The main entrance to Rockford University is at 5050 East State Street, however it is much easier to reach the theater from the back entrance of the campus (right). Taking the back entrance off of Turner Street, the first building to come into view is the Clark Arts Center (which contains Maddox Theatre and Cheek Theatre), with public parking lots on the left.
