“I Need a Break”

Needing a break from COVID talk, a break from work, or just a mental break doesn’t mean you have to book a trip to the Bahamas. There are so many ways to easily plan out a vacation for yourself without leaving the 815, or even your pajamas (it’s a personal choice, and I support it). Whether you choose to create a staycation that takes place completely in your home, or you make the city you’ve lived in for years your “destination,” we have some ideas to get your plans in motion.

Camping Out

For my outdoorsy people, Rockford has so much for you to do you won’t be able to fit it all in one trip. If your idea of a perfect vacation is roughing it out in nature, you can create your dream getaway in your own backyard or at a scenic site like Blackhawk Valley Campground. You can find all your camping essentials at Rockford’s own Rocktown Adventures on Madison Street. From camping to kayaking, you’ll be able to find everything you need for the perfect Rockford campout right at this local store. Just make sure to check the crazy Illinois weather before you plan, unless you’re really into roughing it! You can always take this vacation indoors if you have littles to take care of.

Relaxation

So maybe the camping scene isn’t for you; don’t worry. You can plan your own relaxation time without leaving the house. Grab your robe and slippers and throw on some calm music. You can bring the spa home to you with products from Asha salon in the Cherryvale Mall. Don’t let your relaxation stop there, order dinner and have it delivered to you from one of Rockford’s best local restaurants. You won’t believe what a couple days of technology free rest will do for you.

Be a Tourist

If you’re a native, you may be so used to walking around the 815 you don’t take time to stop and smell the flowers. One way to make home feel more like a vacation is to treat your city (or area) like you’re visiting it for the first time. Take pictures by the beautiful murals in downtown Rockford. Take a stroll down State Street and window shop or stop in the local stores. Go on a walk and snap pictures of the things around you that catch your eye.
