Local organizations, artists, students, and community members are invited to take part in the nationwide America 250 celebration, commemorating the United States’ 250th anniversary in 2026. As part of the Rockford region’s celebration, several opportunities are available to help bring this historic milestone to life.
250th Celebration Event Grant Application
Organizations and groups within Winnebago County are encouraged to apply for funding to support programs and events aligned with the America 250 theme. Eligible projects may include festivals, performances, exhibits, educational programming, and more. Selected proposals will receive funding to support successful planning and implementation. The application deadline is March 31, 2026.

America 250 Art & Essay Competition
Students attending elementary, middle, and high schools in Winnebago County are invited to participate in the America 250 Art & Essay Competition. The theme is “Community and Country.” One winner will be selected per grade level, with cash prizes awarded. Winning artwork and essays will be publicly displayed or read during official 250th celebration events. The submission deadline is May 1, 2026.

Event organizers are encouraged to submit America 250–related events for inclusion in GoRockford’s official promotions and marketing efforts. Submitted events will be featured on GoRockford’s event calendar and may be highlighted in regional campaigns.
