What: One of the top rowing events in the nation, Head of the Rock Regatta, returns to Rockford and will bring approximately 2,000 athletes for exciting competition. Hosted by Rockford Rowing Crew with support from the YMCA of Rock River Valley, competitors will travel to Rockford from 15 states. The regatta will feature 50 collegiate, junior, and club crews. The premier event on the Rock River will bring over 7,500 spectators to line the 3.1-mile course.
The timed head race begins near Martin Park and finishes at the downtown YMCA Log Lodge. Spectators can enjoy free viewing from multiple vantage points along the Rock River Recreation Path. Near the finish line, parking is available at the YMCA and Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens campus.

Why: The Head of the Rock Regatta is recognized among the top fall regattas in the country and delivers significant visitor spending, with an estimated economic impact of $925,000.
The event elevates Rockford’s profile for river sports and has been an autumn signature event since 1985. Competitors range in age from 14 – 75+. Some collegiate teams include the University of Illinois, the University of Wisconsin, the University of Chicago, Notre Dame, Purdue University, Northwestern University, and the University of Michigan. Hosted by the Rockford Rowing Crew with support from the YMCA.
