America's 250th birthday is finally here! Throughout 2026, communities across the nation are commemorating the Semiquincentennial—the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Here in the Rockford region, residents and visitors can celebrate with patriotic concerts, historical programs, family-friendly festivals, and beloved 4th of July traditions. Events held throughout the year to celebrate America 250.

July 3rd & 4th Events

Gather with family and friends to celebrate Independence Day throughout the region. These events offer countless ways to make lasting memories with celebrating America's 250th anniversary. You're sure to find something everyone will enjoy.
 

America 250 Celebration and Concert 

Date & Time: July 3rd, 4 p.m.
Location: Coronado Theatre
Celebrate the eve of Independence Day with a free, special America 250 concert at the historic Coronado Theatre. Enjoy an outdoor street festival with food trucks, family-friendly activities, and live music by local performers starting at 4 p.m. Watch the cultural parade at 6:45 pm, before ending the night with a grand finale concert by the Rockford Symphony Orchestra featuring the Nielsen Chorale in the Coronado Theater at 7:30 p.m. This patriotic evening will honor the nation's rich history through music, community, and celebration as Rockford joins the nationwide Semiquincentennial festivities.
 

Red, White, and Boom!

Date & Time: July 3rd, 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Location: Discovery Center Museum
Kids of all ages will enjoy this event. Activities include sensory-friendly firework displays, sparkler making, and arts and crafts. Be sure to snap a photo at the photo spot to capture the memory of this exciting independence day event!
 

Rockford 4th of July Celebration

Date: July 4th
Celebrate Independence Day all day with events all over the Rockford area. The 4th of July Parade starts downtown at 4:30 p.m. followed by the Fireworks Spectacular at 9:30 p.m. See our 4th of July Celebration event page for a full schedule of events!
 

Semiquincentennial: 250th Anniversary of Independence

Location: Midway Village Museum
Visit Midway Village Museum on the 4th to explore interactive exhibits, meet historical interpreters, and much more at this patriotic event. This free event is a special family-friendly way to celebrate the 250th anniversary of our country.

Celebrate America 250 by showing appreciation for the Veterans who served our country. Join the community for events that recognize local veterans, while exploring the stories, experiences, and history that helped shape our country over the past 250 years.
 

Vets Rock the Block

Date & Time: June 20th, 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Location: 1010 S Main, Rockford, IL
Celebrate local veterans and community spirit at Vets Rock the Block. This patriotic block party brings together live entertainment, food, family-friendly activities, and opportunities to honor those who have served our country. As Rockford commemorates America's 250th anniversary, this event is a meaningful way to recognize the service and sacrifice that have helped shape the nation's history.
 

Heritage of Healing

Date & Time: June 28th, 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Location: Veterans Memorial Hall
Learn more about the history of nursing with a captivating storytelling performance showcasing the dedication of nurses serving on the front lines.

Rockford Juneteenth Celebration

Date & Time: June 19th, 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Location: Sinnissippi Park Music Shell
Join the community in honoring freedom, culture, and heritage at Rockford’s Juneteenth Celebration, the longest-running Juneteenth observance in the State of Illinois. Taking place on Thursday, June 19, from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Sinnissippi Park Music Shell, this annual event brings together residents and visitors for an afternoon filled with entertainment, inspiration, and community pride.

Guests can enjoy a full lineup of live music, cultural performances, community awards, and family-friendly activities throughout the day. The celebration also features a variety of food vendors, retail merchants, and local talent, creating a vibrant atmosphere for all ages. Highlights include scholarship presentations, prize giveaways, and opportunities to connect with community organizations and leaders.

The celebration continues into the evening with a special Juneteenth Premier Performance at Hard Rock Live. Beginning at 7:00 p.m., legendary funk and R&B group Cameo takes the stage following a set from DJ Rated AG. Cameo's performance provides an unforgettable finale to a day of celebration. (Separate ticket required; attendees must be 21 or older.)

Midsommar Fest

Date & Time: June 20th, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Location: Erlander Home Museum
Join in celebrating the summer solstice at this traditional Swedish festival. You can expect everything from live music and dancing to artists and merchants, all highlighting Swedish culture. Don't forget to come back at 6:00 p.m. for the Golden Hour Maypole picnic!

Capstone Event

RockYard Music Fest

Date: August 14th to August 15th
Location: Davis Park
Come out to this America 250 and 815 Day celebration to finish off the summer in the Rockford Region. This free, two-day festival has live music, food vendors, activities, competitions, and community celebration all along the scenic riverfront. Don't forget to stay for the fireworks and drone show!
