Nicole Blough is Go Rockford's Destination Development Events Manager. She is celebrating her one year anniversary this month ...and we are too! Nicole is such an asset to the team. She brings the fun to the Rockford region - and that comes with a great deal of responsibility. She helps to coordinate behind-the-scenes details for fun events like Stroll on State, CRE8IV and more. She is such a hard worker and the Rockford community is better off having her working so hard to make it a great place to live and visit.
Q. Why do you enjoy living in the Rockford region and working for the RACVB?
A. The sense of community. I grew up around here but have also had the privilege of living/working in larger metropolitan cities (Chicago, Milwaukee & Detroit). In comparison, Rockford feels most comfortable, inviting and invigorating. Working for the RACVB, I love that I can help spread my personal ideals about the region through events and projects we create.
Q. What is your favorite thing to do/place to explore when you’re not working?
A. Any of the golf courses. I’m an avid golfer and have been since I was young. Aldeen Golf Club is my go-to! I used to work in the pro shop there during the summers in college.
Q. Where is one of Rockford’s hidden gems, according to you?
A. Stone Bridge Trail in Roscoe – and beyond. I love that I can hop on my bike and ride 20+ miles through such a serene trail. I think every person I’ve ever passed on that trail has either said “hello”, nodded/smiled or waved. Tons of friendly people all just wanting to get some fresh air and exercise.
Q. How do you and your family enjoy spending time outdoors in the region?
A. I don't like to double up my answers, but the golf courses. Myself, my whole family, extended family, as well as many of my friends are all golf lovers! My Grandma and Grandpa Blough have a bench at the 1st Tee Box at Sandy Hollow Golf Course. My Grandpa Benjamin has a bench at the 10th Tee Box of The Ledges Golf Course.
Q. What are you most looking forward to this summer in the Rockford region?
A. Attending outdoor events! We know the warm months are few and far between around here, so I thoroughly enjoy being outside to enjoy live music in unique settings, good food and cold libations. Also, any opportunity I have to boat on the Rock River, I take full advantage of.
Q. Anything else to add?
A. This Summer I’d like to explore more activities outside my comfort zone. I’ve been a fan of West Rock Wake Park at Levings Lake for years, but never had the guts to try it. Maybe this will be my year!
