Independence Day is a time of exciting patriotic celebrations. The Rockford region is booming with fun festivities to celebrate the exciting holiday. This blog will outline many activities and events that you won't want to miss!

You don't have to wait for the big day to celebrate the Fourth- there are activities to kick off the holiday all week long. Check out these community events and plan ahead to make the most of this year’s Independence Day.

July 3rd

Phantom Regiment Show of Shows

Date: July 3 

Time: 7:00 p.m.

Location: Swanson Stadium

Get tickets for the show at Swanson Stadium at Guilford High School. Don't miss the opportunity to catch some of the most amazing drum corps in the Midwest. You can also expect great performances by BANDtastic! Middle School Honor Band and the Phantom Regiment Alumni Association.

If you want to experience a great fireworks show prior to the fourth of July, head to Winnebago and enjoy the spectacle! It is a great way to spend time celebrating the holiday with family and friends!

Rockford Jams: Kashmir with Jakob Alexander

Date: July 3

Time: 6:00 p.m.

Location: Sinnissippi Band Shell

Music fans, 70's fans, Led Zepplin fans, and rock and roll lovers- This one is for you! Rockford Jams (formerly Music in the Park) hosts a tribute to Led Zepplin that will leave you amazed. Start off the weekend at the bandshell and enjoy.

Rockford Symphony Orchestra Star-Spangled Spectacular

Location: Starlight Theater, 3301 N Mulford Rd, Rockford, IL 61114
Time: 8:00 -9:30 p.m.

Fireworks aren’t the only sounds of the season on this patriotic holiday- join the Rockford Symphony Orchestra for their annual recital of the Star-Spangled Banner and other patriotic favorites at 8 p.m. at Starlight Theater. This year, the show will feature Broadway star John Rapson. You can also catch local rising talent, Robbie Strader.

Red, White, & Boom!

Date: July 4

Time: 9:30 a.m.- 2:00 p.m.

Location: Discovery Center Museum

Kids of all ages will enjoy this event. Activities include sensory-friendly firework displays, sparkler making, and arts and crafts. Be sure to snap a photo at the photo spot to capture the memory of this exciting independence day event!

Lifescape 4th of July Classic Run/Walk

Date: July 4
Location: Madison Street
Time: Approx. 7:00 a.m.

Celebrate the holiday by getting some exercise! Participants have a choice of an 8k, a 2- mile, or the 1-mile Family Fun Walk. All participants will receive t-shirts, food, and medals. Prizes will be given to the overall fastest finishers in the male and female categories of the 8k and 2-mile races.

Winnebago 4th of July Parade

Date: July 4
Location: Winnebago, IL
Time: 10:00 a.m.

If you love parades and don’t want to wait until the evening to see one, Winnebago offers a way to do that! You can enjoy an exciting parade filled with lots of different things to see! It’s a great way to kick off the day.

Fourth of July Experience: The Top

Location: The Top at Embassy Suites Hotel
Time: Multiple time slots available for reservation

Experience the Fourth of July spectacle from the rooftop of the Embassy Suites Hotel. The Top Rooftop Bar & Lounge offers perfect views of the fireworks show in Rockford. Each ticket purchased allows guests to receive dining credit to be used during the event.

Front Row Fireworks at Prairie Street

Date: July 4

Location: Prairie Street Brewing Co.

Time: Music 5:00 p.m -9:00 p.m. (Fireworks begin at 9:30)

Prairie Street is offering a dockside view of the much anticipated firework show. You can enjoy live music from 5:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. as well as delicious food from their full brew pub menu. There will also be games on the dock to keep you entertained all evening. 

Celebrate the Fourth at The Standard

Date: July 4
Location: The Standard, 214 E. State St. Rockford, IL
Time: Doors open at 5:00 p.m., show starting at 6 :00 p.m. Price: $10/guest

Join The Standard for an evening with live music by Miles and Kelly and stay for a perfect place to view the fireworks show. There will also be a cash bar for 21+ adults but all ages are welcome.

Rockford Rivets vs. the Battle Creek Battle Jacks

Take me out to the ball game! Catching a Rivets game is the perfect way for baseball fans to celebrate independence day. The Rivets will take on the Battle Creek Battle Jacks at home on the 4th of July.

July 5th

The fun doesn’t stop after the fourth has passed! Festivities in the area continue into the weekend creating plenty of opportunity to keep the celebrations going!

Come to cars and coffee decked out in red, white, and blue. Costumes are encouraged for you and for your car! There will be several special appearances. Fill up on some delicious food while you're here.

Cherry Fest at Valley Orchard

Location: Valley Orchard

Bring the family out to this event to continue the weekend fun! Enjoy live music, great food, wagon rides, and delicious cherries. You can also explore the new walking path or sip on some refreshing beer and wine.
