Spring and Summer Cultural Festivals
St. Patrick's Day Parade and Paddyfest | March
For more than 50 years, the Irish Marching Society has hosted this annual celebration of Irish heritage, featuring traditional music, food, and dancing. The parade winds through downtown with Irish floats, families, and bagpipers. Afterward, the celebration continues at Paddyfest, where guests can enjoy traditional fare, watch live dance performances, and listen to bands.

Cinco De Mayo Jeeps & Tacos Festival | May
Screw City Jeeps 815’s Annual Cinco De Mayo Jeeps and Tacos Festival at Don Carter Lanes in Rockford is a free, family-friendly event featuring live music, youth folkloric dance performances, food trucks, local vendors, and a showcase of more than 500 Jeeps from across the Midwest, making it a lively celebration of culture, community, and plenty of tacos.

Juneteenth Celebration | June
Rockford proudly hosts the longest running Juneteenth celebration in the state of Illinois. Founder Tommy Meeks launched Rockford Juneteenth Celebrations and Juneteenth1865 with a powerful mission to celebrate, preserve, and grow understanding of African American history and its lasting impact.

South Main Mercado | June
Organized by Ethnic Heritage Museum, Comprehensive Community Solutions, La Onda, and SWIFTT, The South Main Mercado is a vibrant outdoor market celebrating the city's rich Hispanic and Latino heritage while fostering community connections. This event features live entertainment from local artists, a diverse array of local vendors offering jewelry, clothing, art, and more, alongside food trucks and community organizations providing bilingual support services.

Midsommar Fest | June
The Swedish Historical Society hosts the Midsommar celebration which includes making flower crowns, dancing around the majstång (maypole), eating wonderful foods, drinking beer, and dancing all day.

Rockford Area Pride Parade and Alley Party | June
The Rockford Area Pride Parade fills downtown with color and joy each year. The celebration continues at the Pride Alley Party with vendors, food trucks, live entertainment, and a welcoming atmosphere that honors diversity, self expression, and the vibrant LGBTQIA+ community and allies who help make Rockford shine. Organized by Rockford Area Pride.

4th of July Parade and Fireworks Show | July
The Rockford 4th of July Civic Committee is a nonprofit that brings the community together each year to celebrate Independence Day with a parade and a music synchronized fireworks show over downtown Rockford.

Japanese Summer Festival | July
The Japanese Summer Festival features exhibits, demonstrations and unique performances that appeal to all age groups and foster a better understanding of the Japanese culture inside the grounds of the award-winning Anderson Japanese Gardens.

Festa Italiana | August
Celebrate Italian culture at one of Rockford’s most beloved annual traditions, a lively three day festival filled with food, music, and family fun hosted by The Greater Rockford Italian American Association. Guests can enjoy bocce tournaments, winemaking and limoncello demonstrations, carnival rides, games, crafts, live entertainment, and plenty of classic Italian eats and drinks.

Polish Fest | August
Celebrate Polish heritage at this lively annual event hosted by St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, filled with live music, dancing, and delicious food. Along with classic festival favorites, guests can enjoy traditional Polish specialties like pierogi, potato pancakes, pastries, sausage, sauerkraut, and beef.

Tamale Fest | August
Tamale Fest brings the heat with a tamale showdown, lowrider show, Lucha Libre action, jalapeño eating contest, live music and dance, plus art, vendors, and cold drinks all day long.

Unity Fest | August
Eliminate Racism 815, NAACP, and Rockford Park district host this community event at Levings Lake Park with a parade of local organizations, food, youth activities, music, and entertainment.

Fall and Winter Cultural Festivals
Oktoberfest | October
Organized by the German Society of Rockford, this festive annual event celebrates German heritage with music, food, beer, and family friendly fun, including cultural and souvenir booths, a children’s area, stein holding contests, the ceremonial keg tapping, the crowning of Miss Oktoberfest, and authentic German dancing throughout the celebration.

Dia de los Muertos | October
Rockford’s annual Día de los Muertos event, presented through Domingos en el Parque, offers a meaningful and lively celebration of heritage, featuring music, food, art, and traditions rooted in remembrance. This event is typically held the last weekend in October.

Snømarket | December
Celebrate Scandinavian culture and tradition at this cozy outdoor market on Rockford’s north end, where guests can sip homemade glogg or hot chocolate, enjoy lefse and fish on a stick, shop vendor booths, play games, and take in the charm of horse drawn carriage rides and more. Hosted by The Norwegian restaurant.
