Rockford R&B singer Ashleye Armelin rises up: A new song, opening for Nelly and her favorite Rockford hang outs.

Music and Rockford often go hand in hand and one of Rockford’s rising stars, Ashleye Armelin, will open for Nelly this Sunday, Oct. 9 at the Coronado Theatre. Tickets are still available at www.coronadopac.org.

The Rockford Auburn High School grad has already collaborated with some of the best names in the music industry, including Grammy Award Winning Producer Bob Robinson (of Tim & Bob) (TLC, Jennifer Lopez) on her  single “One in a Million” and also inside the camp of Grammy Award Winning artist and writer Malik Yusef (Kanye West, Beyonce).

Originally from Texas, Ashleye’s latest single “Name on It,” arranged by Roc Nation and produced by CallMe_Parker, is a showcase of her country twang and fresh take on urban pop over a R&B crossover beat. You can check out her brand new music video on MTV and catch her music on iTunes, Pandora and Spotify.

We asked Ashleye to share some of her favorite places in Rockford, a few popular spots and a couple of hidden gems, where she likes to unwind and have fun with her family and friends.

Discovery Center Museum  -- "Whenever I get any down time I like to spend it with my daughter and take her to the Discovery Center, a place that's very kid friendly and educational."

Rock River Recreation Path --  "My performances also include a lot of moving and dancing so I have to make sure my endurance is always in top shape. The treadmill can be a little boring for me; so instead, I like to put my headphones on and take a run on the bike path."

Loft 24 -- "Whenever I have a show, interview, appearance, etc., my look is the work of my stylist Doyen Morgan. Along with styling me, she owns a boutique that has amazing clothes at great prices."

Jax Pub & Grill -- “Whenever my friends and I want to get out to have some fun our favorite spot to go is Jax because the environment is great and the DJs are super dope."

Polish Deli -- "If you're looking for a great inexpensive meal, with the best cheese fries in town... this is the place to go! If you didn't know, now you know."
