Local citizens in the Rockford Region give their point of view of area attractions and events.

Spring is in full swing and is bustling with youth sports, graduation parties and barbecues. If you're like me, finding time to clean out your flower beds and fill them with plants can seem daunting. However, if you put in the time and effort now, you can enjoy fairly low maintenance flower beds throughout what is sure to be an even busier summer.

The Rockford IceHogs have rediscovered their stride at just the right moment as they secured their spot in the 2017-18 Calder Cup playoffs along with the Chicago Wolves, Grand Rapids Griffins and Manitoba Moose. With wins in six straight games and points in 16 of the last 19 contests since Feb. 24, the Hogs have leapt Iowa in the standings to clinch a place in the playoffs.

Famous Females of Rockford

History and social studies have always been my favorite subjects in school. Rockford has and is producing so many accomplished, upstanding citizens. Look up any list of “famous people from Rockford, Illinois.” the list is so long with people from all different professional fields it will make your head spin. George Santayana is credited for the famous quote “Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it.” However, in regards to these seven famous Rockford ladies, I would be honored to follow in their footsteps.
