Labor Day Weekend in the Rockford Region

Tuesday, August 17, 2021 3:00 PM by Elizabeth Miller

Labor Day Weekend is always a time for fun get-togethers with family and friends, grilling out, and enjoying the last bit of summer! The holiday celebrates and pays tribute to the working men and women in this country, but also serves as the unofficial end to summer. As we enjoy this last stretch of warm weather in the Midwest, here are some suggestions of things to do and places to go to celebrate Labor Day Weekend!

Keeping Active Outdoors This Summer

Now that the state is opening up more, it’s time to get out of the house and soak up the sun…still socially distant of course! There are tons of locations in the Rockford region you can go to get some fresh air and exercise while still being safe around others. Get ready to brush off those sneakers and stretch those legs as you enjoy the summer sun this season!

Many of you are probably like us at the RACVB and have been working from home for a while. I'm so grateful that we have the technology to easily stay connected with our team. Since we've been working from home, we (like many other companies) have utilized Zoom to be able to communicate with our staff.

Although...it gets boring looking at the same background every Zoom meeting. Why have your office (or living room, or kitchen...) wall in the background when you can "travel around Rockford" while you're on Zoom?

You don't actually need too much to make Valentine's Day special! Throw out the idea that you need to go to a fancy restaurant or buy your Valentine flowers and chocolates. Here are some low-key (yet awesome) ways to celebrate Valentine's Day in the Rockford region.

Stroll on State Goes Back in the Box

There are some people who take their Christmas decorations down in a timely manner after the holidays. And then there’s me. There are some years where I get my tree and decorations packed up and put away a week or two after Christmas, but most years my decorations linger a little longer. I look at them and think, “Oh I’ll put things away this weekend.” But then the weekend comes and goes, and the decorations are still up. Eventually once the end of January rolls around, I get more motivated to put things away and they eventually do make their way back into the basement until next December.
