It seems like there is a bacon craze and everyone's trying to capitalize on it. In fact, Baconfest, which took place a few weeks ago at Prairie Street Brewhouse, has become an annual event. Baconfest unites bacon lovers with local, real, original Rockford restaurants who prepare samples of food that all use bacon as an ingredient.

But in Rockford, it seems you can still find bacon everywhere you go. And why not? It's delicious!

Last night, my husband and I stopped at Social for a cocktail after work and ended up staying for dinner. Social's concept is farm to table: they strive to use meats, herbs, and other locally grown products to make all of their food. One of my favorite dishes is the pork tacos. I don't usually stray too far from beef for my tacos, but Social's pork tacos are flavorful, unique, and delicious. And if you like spicy food, make sure you ask for the hot sauce.

But the icing on the cake was literally the icing on the cake. We ordered a piece of their chocolate cake to split. The cake is made with a dark beer which actually enhances the chocolate flavor. The frosting is made with Jadabug Coffee beans. Caramel infused with scotch (think butterscotch) is drizzled over the cake, and then pieces of caramelized bacon are sprinkled all over the cake and plate. I may need to add a few extra minutes to my next workout, but it was so worth it!
